Preparing For Divorce

     Divorce can be one of the most stressful and traumatic experiences a person will endure during his or her lifetime. Feelings of anger, bitterness, hurt, depression, fear, and guilt are common in most divorces. Properly preparing for your divorce can help make the process less srtessful. The following steps will help you in this stressful time and save you money for legal expenses: paperwork (15K)

      Obtain the support of your family and friends. Use your close associates as your sounding board and support network. They can help you work through the emotional issues you may experience

      Make lists. Make a careful list of all of your assest, including the personal property in your home. Be sure to include bank account number and values for all accounts.

      Copy Documents. Make copies of all statements from pension plans, IRA accounts, life insurance, bank accounts, mortgages, Keogh plans, title to automobiles and other vehicles. Be sure to include your tax returns, and medical records. Also include copies of all statements for your debts. This will assist us in evaluating your situation and save legal time and expense. Consider keeping this information in a place unavailable to your spouse.

      Order a credit report. You can obtain a free credit report online once each year. Annual Credit Report.com provides this service.

      Joint Accounts. Think about transferring your half of the joint funds to your separate bank account. However,do not spend these funds irresponsibly. You will be required to account for them.

      Credit Card Accounts. Consider closing credit card accounts in your joint names if you are concerned your spouse will incur additional debt in both your names.

      Cash Business. If your spouse operates a business on a cash basis and is not reporting the income,obtain credit card statments and credit card statements and expense receipts to demonstrate the standard of living that is afforded by the cash received.
